First day of school, many students are rushing not to go to school but to get in with the link given by their teachers to catch up to their classes. This is today’s situation in the world of virtual classes that students were abruptly tossed into. You have no choice but to adapt the new normal in education. Is it effective for the different kinds of learners having different retention levels in acquiring learning outcomes? Is virtual classroom enough to meet the needs of these students having different status in life? For some, this maybe a welcoming transition in this new normal situation, but for those who cannot afford to buy smart phones and laptops just to be present and learn new things in their online classes? That would be a very big question.
According to Ki-Manila Bulletin, published on September 4, 2020, several private schools have started their online classes and it seems like students are having a tough time coping with the new set up and vented their frustrations on Twitter with the hashtag #AcademicFreeze. The main concern now for students is just how difficult online schooling is compared to actual classes. Several students lamented that they are no longer learning, as their focus has shifted to completing assignments on a daily basis.
Some of the sentiments of students about their online classes were their struggles in connecting to the internet. Especially if there is poor internet connectivity for remote areas. They said that they were not learning instead they were just complying with the new normal. For them, online class is very stressful.
